Description
You won't find this extremely rare time trial bike from the early 90s every day. Not only the special frame with multishape tubes, but also the new C-Record group from the time make this racing bike so special. Apparently, only a handful of frames were made for professional teams from this frame. Even Irio Tommasini himself can still remember this piece of jewelry that he built when I asked him about it.
Irio Tommasini, a former racing cyclist, started building exquisite steel racing bikes in a small shop in Grosseto (Italy) in 1957. Tommasini was and is known for exceptionally high quality, performance and elaborate paintwork. In the 70s he was able to expand his customer base across borders and quickly gained recognition for his racing skills with cyclists who were looking for a new racing machine. He started to market his frames under the second name Thomas because he felt that this name was more memorable for non Italians. However, this was not necessary and the Thomas brand disappeared from the market relatively quickly. Tommasini Bicycles still produces handmade steel racing bike frames, but has also specialized in other materials such as carbon, aluminum, stainless steel and titanium in cooperation with Columbus. Tommasini frames are still 100% made in Italy and exported all over the world.
The frame has the geometry of an old time trial frame: a 26 inch front wheel and a 28 inch rear wheel. This should improve aerodynamics and make the seating position even more aggressive. The UCI later banned such a type of time trial bike as it required two wheels of the same size. The frame is made from rare Columbus Multishape tubes and was made in addition to its low-pro geometry in the rare triple triangle design. This means that the frame consists of three triangles as soon as the saddle struts of the rear triangle are guided to the top tube and not to the saddle sleeve.
The frameset consists of a chromed Columbus Air fork, a chromed rear, beautifully finished chromed lugs and a lot of other special details. In addition to a classic 3TTT time trial handlebar without a trailer, the time trial machine has the best Italian racing bike components from 1991 and aerodynamic wheels from Roval. Also there is a Tommasini pantographed 3TTT stem, a new Cinelli Volare saddle, Vittoria tubular tires and the aerodynamic Biodynamica bottle from Campagnolo installed.
